NFL: Championship Week Ramble

And then there were two. After a couple of pretty mediocre Conference Championship Games, it’s down to Green Bay and Pittsburgh. The Packers took care of the Bears, while the Steelers defeated the Jets in a pair of games which saw each victor flex its muscles…and then hold on for its Super Bowl life.

The Packers went into Chicago and made an immediate statement, scoring on their opening drive without facing a third down to take a 7-0 lead. They extended it to 14 at the start of the second quarter and took that two-score lead into the locker room at halftime. The Bears were lucky they weren’t trailing by more—Green Bay out-gained their hosts by 149 yards and controlled both sides of the football. Senior Bowl: Reaction To NFL ‘Meat Market’

Mobile, AL–Mobile is currently hosting the top scouts for every NFL team at the Senior Bowl festivities.

Today’s weigh-ins were so heavily attended that some people had to view from the hallway outside the ballroom and stand they did as more than a hundred players were measured for the official marks.

NORTH SQUAD

Jeremy Beal – DE – Oklahoma: Beal had a sloppy build in the upper body and measured in shorter than expected at 6’2”.

Gabe Carimi – OT – Wisconsin: The Wisconsin Badger was all of 6’7” and some spare change. He looked a little bit leaner than expected, weighing in at 315 pounds.

Roy Helu – RB – Nebraska: Helu looked a lot slimmer than expected and appeared a little slight yesterday at registration.  He is obviously hiding it all somewhere, as he measured in at 5’11”+ and weighed

A first team All-Pac-10 selection by the conference coaches, Casey Matthews was pivotal in leading the Oregon Ducks to their first BCS Championship game.
