Often times small school prospects tend to fall through the cracks during the NFL Draft evaluation process due to the lack of exposure during their career and limited platform to perform in front of NFL types.

Washburn (KS) wide receiver Joseph Hastings had the opportunity to work out at the Kansas State pro day on March 15^th and turned a few heads. The 5’11 ½, 185-pound wide out ran in the 4.4-range, flashing the speed that enabled him to average nearly 18 yards per catch and accumulating over 1,500 yards.

Following the workout, Hastings has received interest from the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and conducted a private workout for the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week. San Francisco 49ers: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft–

• QB – The quarterback concerns have been long documented for this franchise; since the drafting of Alex Smith number one overall in the 2005 NFL Draft, this franchise has an overall record of 37-59. The 49ers have playmakers throughout the offense but their talents aren’t being maximized due to the mediocre play at the quarterback spot.  Even if San Francisco brings in a veteran quarterback via free agency, look for the team to spend at least one draft pick on a young passer for new head coach Jim Harbaugh to groom.

• CB – The 49ers defense has a solid front seven but their secondary is still an issue, giving up an average of more than 230 yards per game through the air in 2010.  Nate Clements is

• NT – After two unsuccessful seasons playing the 3-4 defense under the Josh McDaniels regime, the coaching staff has once again been overhauled with new head coach John Fox bringing his 4-3 defense mentality. Jamal Williams is a true nose tackle and does not fit the new scheme. Thus, one of the Broncos’ top priorities will be finding a defensive tackle to help anchor the middle of the defense. However, picking second overall, the defensive end talent available might be too enticing to pass up.

2010 NFL Draft Class–

(1-16) Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech: The physical end gave fans a taste of his potential by powering his way around blockers versus the pass and holding his ground against the run. Unfortunately his season was cut short by a torn ACL in Week 4. Morgan’s quick first step, balance and technique are just a few of the ingredients that give the former Yellow Jacket a bright future. He reportedly plans on coming back 10 pounds lighter in 2011. Grade: B

(3-77) Damian Williams, WR, USC: It’s a mystery why the coaching staff often stuck with washed up veterans such as Justin Gage and Nate “Butterfingers” Washington instead of giving Williams some more play. The smooth rookie displayed his skills in small doses by running sharp routes
