Nashville’s WSMV-TV reports that Vanderbilt’s ninth-year head coach Bobby Johnson has “abruptly” retired. After leading the Commodores to a 7-6 record in 2008, the program fell on hard times with a two-win season the following year. While the 59-year-old was only 29-66 during his tenure, it should be noted that Johnson did guide Vandy to its first non-losing season two years ago since 1982. Previously, the South Carolina native also served as the defensive coordinator of Clemson University in 2003.
