The LSU rush defense was previously ranked number six in the nation. While putting on the ground and pound beat down, Cameron Newton set the SEC single season rushing record for a quarterback with 1,077 yards…and he still has four games left to catch the NCAA single-season record of 1,649 yards. That mark is held by the world renowned Jayson Foster of Georgia Southern University, who accomplished the feat in 2007.

2) The SEC West has 4 teams in the top 25, the WAC has 2 teams

UNC’s Kendric Burney Cleared to Play

University of North Carolina senior cornerback Kendric Burney has been cleared to play and will make his 2010 debut Saturday against William & Mary.  A native of Jacksonville, N.C., Burney missed the previous seven games.  He was suspended six games for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules and was held out of the Miami game while the University worked with the NCAA to determine his eligibility status.

College Football Insider’s Week 8 Preview

College Football Insiders founder Daniel Mogollon previews the top games for week eight.

Thursday – 10.21.10

7:30 – UCLA #2 Oregon (ESPN): The Ducks come in a bit wounded on the defensive side of the ball, and will likely be without the services of RB/KR Kenjon Barner (concussion). However, the good news is that Darron Thomas (probable/shoulder) is expected to go. Oregon is third in the nation in rushing and UCLA is just eighth in the Pac-10 in rush defense, which doesn’t make for a good match-up on the field or the scoreboard.

The Pick: Oregon knocks off UCLA like Bruins sitting on a pond. Score: Oregon 41, UCLA 20

Friday – 10.22.10

8:00 – South Florida Cincinnati (ESPN2): The Bearcats are coming off back-to-back
