SEC Football Legends: Class of 2010 | John Mackey Midseason Watch List

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech filled in a piece of its future non-conference football schedules by agreeing to a four-year deal with Brigham Young University, beginning in 2012.

The Yellow Jackets and Cougars will play in 2012 and 2014 in Atlanta. In 2013 and 2017, Tech will travel to Provo, Utah.

“The addition of Brigham Young to our future football schedules helps ensure that Georgia Tech will continue to play quality non-conference opponents,” Yellow Jacket athletic director Dan Radakovich said. “With its strong tradition and history, BYU is a good fit for us.”

SEC Football Legends: Class of 2010 | John Mackey Midseason Watch List

(October 18, 2010) The 2010 John Mackey Award midseason watch list has been released by the Nassau County Sports Commission.  Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2010 John Mackey winner will be announced on December 9, 2010. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2010 Mackey semi-finalists on November 15, 2010 and the announcement of the 2010 Mackey finalists on November 22, 2010. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. All-Americans, both on the playing field and in the classroom, and All-SEC performers highlight the 2010 Southeastern Conference Football Legends Class, the SEC announced.

The Legends will be honored at this year’s SEC “Weekend of Champions” which culminates with the SEC Football Championship Game on Sat., Dec. 4 at the Georgia Dome.

The SEC Legends Dinner presented by AT&T will feature the legends from the 12 SEC schools on Friday, Dec. 3 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.  The legends will also be recognized on the field prior to the kickoff of the championship game.

CBS’ Verne Lundquist will serve again as the master of ceremonies for the 2010 SEC Legends Dinner.

As passing increases and receivers earn more prominent roles in offenses, it seems like a perfect opportunity to go Inside the Numbers and take a closer look at the men who make their living catching passes.

The focus will be on the first 86 wide receivers taken from rounds one and two from the 2000 season all the way up until 2009. It helps that 43 receivers were selected from each side of that timeline, so it’s an equal division.

The atmosphere for the 65,168 at Heinz Field couldn’t have been any better; temperatures in the mid-sixties with the sun warmly shining down on one of the most historic rivals in all of sport—the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The vibe outside the stadium was electric before the kickoff. “I’ve heard about it but don’t believe it,” was one Steelers fan’s take on the rivalry on the eve of Ben Roethlisberger’s return from a four-game suspension.  

“You’ve got to tip your hat to Cleveland,” said Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin after the Browns defense held his team to just seven first half points. Having won seven of their last nine games following the bye week, the final score of 28-10 was indicative of how well the Steelers’ coaching staff can prepare the team in two weeks’ time.

The Texas Longhorns have been struggling all season to find their run game; little did they know it would be found on the legs of their sophomore quarterback, Garrett Gilbert. The Longhorns also got a dominant performance from their defense—especially the front seven—as well as some timely miscues from a Nebraska team that had not yet faced an opposing defense with speed to match their own. Oh, and Nebraska really “dropped the ball” in this one and even had a chance to tie late in the game despite playing so poorly.

Texas came out and surprised the Huskers with 10 points behind a few designed draws for the guy who is supposed to have the arm for everything. Gilbert was patient in his reads on the draws and showed surprising ability in
