Player Spotlight: QB Terrelle Pryor (#2), Ohio State & QB Jacory Harris, Miami

“He’s like a typical quarterback,” Miami head coach Randy Shannon said of Pryor. “A guy that can make some yards and create some plays for you and things like that. Like I said before, we can’t get caught up in just Terrelle Pryor. We’ve got to do our job. Pass rush guys have got to stay in their lanes, coverage guys have got to stay in their coverage and make sure we break up when he scrambles and things like that. The guys executed well during practice, and it will be great to see

BYU won a hard fought battle versus the Huskies, 23-17, thanks to timely plays and their refusal to allow Jake Locker to win the game with his legs. Outside of a second quarter touchdown run, Locker was kept in check. Here are some players who came through with outstanding performances, as well as those who fell short of expectations.

Putting the lockdown on Locker

Seven new starters on defense didn’t prevent BYU from stifling Locker’s exploits on the ground. For the night, the dual-threat quarterback was held to 29 yards on 11 carries.

On one running play at the start of the second quarter, Locker desperately tried to run out of his own end zone but despite a timely backside block by tight end Chris Izbicki, was stopped for no gain.

Late in the fourth quarter, it seemed as if Locker could find some daylight on a designed third-down

UGA’s Green To Miss Four Games

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia learned on Wednesday that junior All-SEC flanker A.J. Green will not be available against the Gamecocks after the NCAA announced he must miss four games as a condition of becoming eligible to play again due to violation of NCAA agent benefits rules. Georgia is appealing the NCAA decision. Green sat out the season opener against Louisiana last Saturday.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt was asked several questions about Green in his regular post-practice session with the media.

“We’re aware of what’s going on with A.J., and what’s most important for this team is to focus on the game,” said Richt. “We have a big game this weekend, and we’re going to play whoever is eligible to play. I told the team and then said now we need to focus on this game and who is playing, and then we went to

Roh Leads the Way on Defense

After playing in a two-point stance on first and second down in Michigan’s first defensive series of the game, sophomore outside linebacker Craig Roh (click to read on location Q&A from the Big House) lined up with his hand on the ground on third down. He blew by UConn’s left tackle, going right around the blocker to get pressure on the quarterback. Throughout the contest Roh displayed the ability to play on the line of scrimmage or behind the front three. He also displayed the quickness to get into the backfield against the run or drop back into coverage, where he looked comfortable. When the Wolverines switched to a 4-3 defense on passing situations,

Stock Up: Burton the Burner

Not many players improved their draft stock in week one as much as Utah’s junior cornerback Brandon Burton. On the first drive of the game the cornerback made a quick open-field tackle on a short pass to Pittsburgh’s star wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin. Throughout the night, whenever the Panthers would look for their go-to receiver, they would find Burton running with him stride for stride and the Ute always had inside position. Most of the time, if anyone was going to catch that football it would have been Burton—he was that locked on Baldwin. Burton was effective in press coverage and did his job when giving a cushion. In off coverage, the Texas native displayed a smooth backpedal and flipped his hips with ease to stay with
