Nagurski Defensive POW: Kenny Tate

DALLAS (FWAA) Maryland free safety Kenny Tate has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 4.

Tate, a 6-4, 220-pound junior free safety from Forestville, Md., made the play of the game in the Terrapins’ 17-14 victory on Monday when he stopped Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs on fourth down from the 1-yard line with 34 seconds remaining.

Tate made several big plays during the game while registering a career-high 12 tackles. He forced two Navy fumbles, one inside the 5-yard line when it appeared Navy was able to tie the score in the third quarter.

Tate will be added to the 2010 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be presented to the best defensive player in college football on Dec. 6 by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl TOW: Boise State

DALLAS (FWAA) With their 33-30 win over Virginia Tech in Landover, Md., the Boise State Broncos (1-0) are the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 4.

Junior quarterback Kellen Moore hit Austin Pettis with a 13-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining to provide the winning points. Pettis’ earlier touchdown catch after his blocked punt helped the Broncos run out to a 17-0 first-quarter lead.

In front of a crowd of 86,587 at FedExField, the Broncos extended their winning streak to 15 games, which includes a win over TCU in last season’s Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

“We know how much was at stake for us, so it was kind of like a bowl game, but we’ve still got 11, 12 games to go,” Pettis said after the game. “There’s a lot we need to work on, too,

The Rosstradamus NFL Crystal Ball: AFC East

Below are the predictions of Rosstradamus, great-great grandson of Nostradamus. As a tribute to the former seer, each team is given a fitting quote from his quatrains. Enjoy, and remember…the Crystal Ball never lies.

AFC EAST AFC NORTH AFC SOUTH AFC WEST NFC EAST NFC NORTH NFC SOUTH NFC WEST | PREDICTIONS

New England Patriots (10-6): One day the two great masters will be friends, their great power will be seen increased.

Be careful—writing off the Pats can be dangerous. They’re not going to win the Super Bowl, and Brady isn’t going to turn the clock back to 2007…but this is a playoff team. Tom Brady is now two years removed from his knee surgery. That’s usually the time required before a player is physically and mentally ready
