Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals fifth-round draft pick, John Skelton led his squad to touchdown drives of 73 and 67 yards, going 5-for-6 for 84 yards and the go-ahead touchdown pass to Jason Wright on a screen during their first preseason game. Houston Texans: KR Trindon Holliday has given way to Jacoby Jones on punt returns after fumbling in Saturday’s preseason game. He’s not going to make the team. Holliday appears “psyched out” right now, according to beat writer John McClain. Ever since they used their No. 1 pick on CB Kareem Jackson, the Texans have had high expectations for him. He was handed the starter’s job vacated by Dunta Robinson, who signed with Atlanta as a free agent.

Indianapolis Colts: LB Pat Angerer recorded two sacks in a span of three plays in the second quarter and led the Indianapolis Colts in tackles in a 37-17 preseason loss to the San Francisco

Buffalo Bills: Though his coach was later in “downplay” mode, RB C.J. Spiller made quite an impression in Toronto, including a TD run. The darting, artful-dodging 31-yard touchdown was everything you need to know about why the Buffalo Bills drafted Spiller with the ninth overall pick in April’s draft. WR Marcus Easley recently underwent surgery to repair a left knee injury sustained two weeks ago.

Miami Dolphins: CBk Nolan Carroll believes he can be a game-changer on special teams this season as a kick returner for the Dolphins. Carroll, who has impressed as a cornerback as well, is a lock to make the roster. “Having the ability to be able to bring the ball back that kind of electricity I think is pretty important,” Coach Tony Sparano said.

New York Giants: FOX Sports’ Adam Caplan suggests that rookie WR Victor Cruz is already pushing for the Giants’ “fourth or fifth receiver job.” New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said he was happy with DE Jason Pierre-Paul played in the team’s first preseason game but Pierre-Paul has to improve on his conditioning, reports Michael Eisen, of Giants.com.

Chester Stewart Named Temple QB

PHILADELPHIA (8/21/10) – Temple head coach Al Golden named Chester Stewart (Hanover, Md.) as the starting quarterback for the 2010 football season.

“I informed the team earlier today that we are naming Chester Stewart as our starting QB,” Golden said.  “Indeed we will continue to cultivate an organization where competition exists at every position, and the Quarterback is no exception.  However, it’s apparent to the staff and perhaps more significantly his teammates, that after two weeks of training camp, Chester has unmistakably distinguished himself as the starting QB both on and off the field.”

The redshirt junior is a preseason All-MAC selection by Phil Steele’s College Football.  He has started seven games under center– four in 2009 and three as a redshirt freshman in 2008. Stewart finished the 2009 season going 26-of-65 for 514 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for
