Brandon Willis To Transfer From UNC

Brandon Willis, a freshman defensive tackle from Duncan, S.C., has decided to transfer from the University of North Carolina.  Willis enrolled at Carolina in January, 2010 and played in the Spring Game April 10.  He reported to Chapel Hill for training camp on Aug. 5 and had been participating in practice.

Transcript of Head Coach Butch Davis following Thursday morning practice:

“Brandon Willis and his father informed us that he is going to withdraw from school.  It’s a sad situation.  Brandon lost his mother less than a year ago and they’ve gone through some family hardships and some family difficulties.  His father has been looking for employment and was informed yesterday that he was able to find a job.  The unfortunately thing is he found a job in Southern California and he is really adamant about trying to keep his family together. He’s asked both of

Vols Football: Catching Up With Oku

When it comes to talking with the media, few players are more entertaining than Tennessee sophomore tailback David Oku. He kept reporters smiling as he fielded questions after Thursday’s practice about the competition for starting at tailback, special teams and, yes, even his weight.

Whoever starts at tailback for the Vols in 2010 has tall task of replacing departed senior Montario Hardesty, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He ran for more than 1,400 yards and had 13 rushing touchdowns to go along with a pair of receiving touchdowns.

This season, Oku is squarely in the hunt for increased playing time at tailback alongside junior Tauren Poole, who was listed as the probable starter out of spring camp. Sophomore Toney Williams and freshman Rajion Neal have also seen action in the backfield during scrimmages.

“It’s just an

HOW THEY RANK

1.    Bill Polian, Indianapolis Colts: His track record speaks for itself. In his 22 seasons as a front office decision maker, Polian has led his teams to five Super Bowl appearances, not mention the fact that the Bills, Panthers, and Colts have qualified for postseason play in 15 of those years. During his Indy tenure, Polian has done a masterful job of surrounding quarterback Peyton Manning with talented weapons on offense.

2.    Scott Pioli, Kansas City Chiefs:
The Bill Belichick disciple doesn’t always look for the biggest or fastest players in the draft, but rather looks for the types of athletes that fit his team best. While

Rookie Running Backs Propel Bills To Win

It took four plays into the Bills opening drive for first-round draft pick C.J. Spiller to begin delivering on his dynamic billing by scoring on a 31-yard run and sparking a 34-21 win over the Indianapolis Colts in a preseason game Thursday. It came in Spiller’s debut as starter in place of veterans Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, who were both injured a week earlier. He finished with 10 carries for 54 yards with a touchdown

Rookie TE Duo Shines in Preseason Win

Mancini’s take on the performance of rookie tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in New England’s 28-10 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons: The rookie duo did a fantastic job on Thursday night with Hernandez looking like more of the downfield threat with wide receiver skills and Gronkowski playing the role of the traditional tight end who’s big enough to tangle with defensive linemen, but also be a factor in the passing game. Hernandez was masterful on his 4-yard touchdown reception from Tom Brady in the way he adjusted to the ball on nice corner route and beat SeanWeatherspoon who failed to turn his head with the ball in the air. In the second half, the former Gator exhibited good hands and toughness when he extended his hands and caught the ball away from his body in between two defenders that were closing in on
