NFL: Alan Faneca A Goner

The Jets have reportedly released LG Alan Faneca.

Mancini’s Take: The Jets weren’t willing to pay the $7.5 million that Faneca was due in 2010…and that’s too bad. While the 33-year-old mauler might have been overpaid at this stage in his career, he remains an imposing run blocker. He can still move people off the ball and was instrumental in helping linemates Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson develop into the fine players they are today. Unfortunately, Faneca has become a bit of a liability in pass protection. He’s a bit slow, at times, in picking up quick, penetrating defenders. I would have liked to have seen him stick around for another season and let second-round pick Vladimir Ducasse learn the ropes as a reserve in his first year. The Haitian powerhouse is a massive, long-armed force who plays with good leverage, but his footwork needs some work. The Jets are

Q&A: Torell Troup, UCF

On being a member of the Buffalo Bills:
“It feels really good to be a member of the Bills.”

On his style of play:
“I’m more of a two-gap guy in our system in college. We ran a 4-3 but I was a two-gapping nose tackle that took on a lot of double teams and helped the linebackers make plays. I kept my linebackers playing on the field and I did my job really well.”

On playing in the 3-4 system:
“I have no problem with that at all. I’m not a selfish player and to play nose tackle, you can’t be a selfish player. I feel like I can do all the things that they ask me to do.”

On the level of contact he had with the Bills leading up to today:
“I talked

Lee was the No. 55 overall selection in the draft, as Dallas traded its second and fourth round picks to Philadelphia in order to select him.

Lee and Bowman join defensive tackle Jared Odrick as Nittany Lions selected in the 2010 NFL Draft. Odrick was a first round selection by the Miami Dolphins. “Linebacker U.” was the first Big Ten team with multiple choices in this year’s draft.

2010 NFL Draft Round One Impact & Analysis

1.  St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford Quarterback Oklahoma
Analysis:  The Rams have spent the last couple of drafts passing on a quarterback.  Now, in 2010, with the number one pick, they finally got their guy. With unquestioned accuracy and excellent football intelligence, he was the logical choice for the first pick.  Many had Jimmy Clausen rated ahead of Bradford, but after Clausen’s free fall, it is clear that NFL teams did not have him on the same level. Rumors of the Cleveland Browns attempting to trade up for Bradford swirled in the days before the draft, showing how highly the Oklahoma quarterback is thought of in NFL circles.  Even with the Browns reportedly offering most of their picks in 2010 and some 2011 picks, the Rams stayed pat and selected Bradford.
