The Washington Redskins have reportedly acquired DT Adam Carriker from the St. Louis Rams for an disclosed package.

<br Mancini’s Take: Could the Redskins be setting themselves up for a deal that would ship Albert Haynesworth to the Detroit Lions? Things sure look to be headed in that direction, but that remains to be seen. The fact is: the Redskins need to rid themselves of their $100 million malcontent and bring in players that are committed to winning. Jason Taylor has reportedly chosen the Jets over the Dolphins.

Mancini’s Take: Ha! That’s a laugh.Taylor wanted no part of the Jets, but unfortunately for him, the Dolphins showed no interest and effectively put him on hold. The declining 36-year-old went to Gang Green because nobody else wanted him and GM Mike Tannenbaum applied the full court press to sign him before Thursday. On paper, the move makes sense since the Jets were a middle-of-the-road team in quarterback sacks last year despite having the top defense in terms points allowed to the opposition. But honestly, as a lifelong die-hard of the Green and White, I’m going to have a hard time rooting for a man who has spent his entire pro career insulting my team and its fans. There’s a longstanding hatred between the Jets and the Dolphins, and no other player brings out more hatred and animosity in true Jets

The New England Patriots have reportedly agreed to terms with former Jags receiver Torry Holt on a one-year contract.

 

Mandel’s Take: I guess Holt’s name was next up on the Pats’ “Wheel of Veteran Receivers Who are Past Their Prime”. I don’t get it. Wes Welker isn’t going to be back anytime soon so the need for a receiver clearly exists…but Holt doesn’t give the Pats what they need there, which is a playmaker. Is Holt even better than Julian Edelman? At this point, I’m saying no. Holt didn’t have a touchdown last season, so unless Bill Belichick has a Hot Tub Time Machine that can put the jolt back in Holt, they’re not exactly keeping pace with the Jets (Santonio Holmes) or Dolphins (Brandon Marshall) with this signing. Look for them to add a legit receiving threat in the draft.

Do you feel pretty good about your position coming into the draft?

Yeah, I think I feel pretty good and that I’ve proved myself, but I think the entire process takes twists and turns because they dig into every little thing about you, like your character, how well you can learn, can you adapt…there’s just so many different things and you never know where you’re going to go.

So you don’t know which teams may be interested in you approaching draft day?

No, you really have no clue. You can watch the draft every year and people you expect to go somewhere go to another team, so you really don’t know until they call you.

So what’s it like being a student-athlete? Have you finished up your classes?
