Unga To Withdraw From BYU

PROVO, Utah — BYU student-athlete Harvey Unga announced he has decided to withdraw from school. Unga made the decision to withdraw as a result of a violation of the BYU honor code.

Unga, a 6-foot, 237-pound running back, is the school’s all-time leading rusher with 3,455 yards gained over his first three seasons in the Cougar backfield. He led the Mountain West Conference in rushing last year while garnering first-team All-MWC honors after a third consecutive 1,000-yard season.

“I fully support Harvey and his decision regarding his personal situation,” BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall said. “The possibility of not having Harvey on the field in the fall would certainly have an impact on our team, but my main concern right now is in supporting Harvey.”

Women’s basketball player Keilani Moeaki has also withdrawn from the school due to an honor code violation.

Report: Bradford Will Cost $50M Guaranteed

The St. Louis Rams and Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford, who is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, will not have a contract in place before the draft, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Bradford has been hesitant to complete a deal and wants to see how the NFL Draft plays out, as another team could look to trade up to get him. The Rams don’t think they need to have one in place before the event kicks off next week and believe the player will eventually sign. Bradford’s contract is expected to average about $13 million per year with roughly $50 million in guaranteed money.

After Workout Bradford Seems ‘Perfect’ Fit

The Rams sent offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and quarterbacks coach Dick Curl to workout Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford on Friday, which lasted about an hour. It began with Bradford working on pass drops as if under center, under the tutelage of Shurmur and Curl.

Unlike the pro day session, which was scripted by Bradford and his handlers, the Rams dictated what was done. After more than one play, Shurmur replied with an exclamation of “perfect!” and then pounded knuckles with Bradford.

“That’s got to be good when the coach says ‘perfect,’ ” said Bradford’s agent, Tom Condon, who was watching from the sideline of the Sooners’ indoor training facility.

NFL: Dolphins Ship Ginn to Niners

The 49ers have acquired WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Mandel’s Take: With the arrival of Brandon Marshall, the writing was on the wall for the massively disappointing Ginn. Perhaps a change of scenery will help him hold onto the ball and produce…something. I suppose he’ll help the Niners in the return game, but for a number nine overall pick, that’s not good enough. When you consider that the Dolphins still need a down field threat, yet decided to jettison Ginn, it tells you all you need to know about the former Buckeye. He’s got speed, but it takes more than that to succeed in the NFL. He should be frustrating Coach Singletary in no time.
