Draft Diamond: Josh Hull, Penn State

Josh Hull is living the dream and looking to become the third Penn State linebacker taken in this year’s NFL Draft.

Hull’s path to the NFL—like his college stardom—has been an unlikely one.

“I was recruited by William & Mary and Bucknell coming out of high school,” said Hull. “Both are 1-AA schools.”

Hull was a very athletic player coming out of high school, excelling at fullback and linebacker. However, his small high school and small frame kept him from getting a Division I scholarship.

“I was about 6’2” and 204 pounds coming out of high school,” Hull said. “Most Division I linebackers coming to big schools like Penn State are usually 215 to 220 pounds, so I was a little undersized.”

Still, Hull continued to work hard and pushed himself to try out for the Penn State football team.

My biggest strengths are my intelligence, strength, and ability to move laterally at my weight.

I am 6’0”, 200 pounds…4.47

What do you consider to be your biggest strength?

I would say that would have to be a tie between my high football I.Q. and my relentlessness.

What part of your game have you worked on improving?

I have worked very hard on my route running, since I’ve been playing the wide receiver position less than a year.  I get better every day and the team that chooses me will reap the benefits.

Where have you been training? How often do you workout to stay in shape?

6’ 2”, 251 pounds…4.60.

What do you consider to be your biggest strength?

Although I am also blessed with physical strength and great speed for my size, my mental game is my biggest strength.  It’s great to be physically gifted, but those gifts would never be used properly if I wasn’t wired strong mentally.

What part of your game have you worked on improving?

I have been working on my entire game on a daily basis because if you aren’t improving, you’re getting worse.  In getting ready for an NFL camp, I’ve been especially building my speed and explosion.

Where have you been training? How often do you workout to stay in shape?

I train at Zoom Sports in Frisco, Texas with John Kasa. I work out six days
