NFL: Patrick Kerney Calls It Quits

Seahawks DE Patrick Kerney has changed his mind and will retire from football after all, according to NFL.com’s Steve Wyche.

Draft Impact: This isn’t shocking news, considering reports that Kerney had already held a retirement party in late January. The 33-year-old has enjoyed a solid career and seemed to be on his way to reemerging as one of the league’s premiere pass rushers in 2007, when he notched 14.5 sacks. He was an unstoppable force that season, but major shoulder and elbow injuries over the past two years have convinced him to call it a career. But what does this mean for the Seahawks in terms of their draft? Defensive end was a need even with Kerney in the fold. At this point, Pete Carroll and company may have no choice but to take Derrick Morgan with their sixth pick in the first round, especially if the top two left

Cougar Football Holds Second Spring Scrimmage

PULLMAN – The Washington State football team held its second scrimmage of spring practice Saturday at Martin Stadium, and after an improved performance by both the offense and defense, WSU Head Coach Paul Wulff was impressed with his team’s progression.<br <br “From a teaching perspective we cleaned a lot of things up,” Wulff said. “I think our line play is getting more and more physical, which has obviously been needed. We are more physical and playing better football (on both sides of the ball).” <br <br Quarterbacks Marshall Lobbestael and Jeff Tuel combined to complete 15-of-23 passes for 155 yards, and each threw a touchdown pass. Lobbestael went 8-of-11 for 71 yards during the scrimmage, and found wide receiver Jared Karstetter in the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown. Report: Big Ben To Meet With Commish Today

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is scheduled to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday regarding the rape allegations in Milledgeville, Ga., for which he was cleared, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Goodell said at the league meetings last month that he planned to meet with Roethlisberger about the investigation in Georgia whether or not charges were filed. Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright announced Monday that he would not press charges against Roethlisberger because of insufficient evidence stemming from a March 5 incident with a 20-year old college student.

Source: Steelers Mull Suspending Roethlisberger

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger expressed “gratitude” Monday that he was not charged with sexual assault in Georgia and sorrow for causing “disappointment and negative attention.” But his troubles might not be over. Sources have told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Steelers are considering a suspension of their 28-year-old quarterback — if National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell does not beat them to the punch — even though prosecutors in Georgia announced the investigation and case against him have been dropped. Steelers President Art Rooney II was described as “furious” by some.

Draft Diamond: Tim Knicky of Stephen F. Austin

Stephen F. Austin defensive end Tim Knicky is one of the small school diamonds in the rough for the 2010 NFL Draft. Some fans might not know about him, but NFL scouts sure do. Those scouts showed up for Knicky’s pro day, where he measured in at 6’4”, 252 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63-to-4.67 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.12 seconds, and the three-cone drill in 6.91 seconds. He measured a 33.5” vertical jump, a 9’8” broad jump and benched 225 pounds 17 times.

“I am glad that the pro day stuff is over. Now I can get back to being a football player, not a track guy,” Knicky said.

Knicky showed NFL scouts that he can be an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense with his pro day workout.

“Most teams are looking at me as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but there are

St. Louis Rams Sale In Limbo | Draft Impact

Rams sale suddenly in limbo … Don’t know what it means for the #1 pick at the 2010 draft, but the ownership situation of St. Louis, which holds the top pick this year, was thrown into a state of confusion when minority owner Stan Kroenke opted to exercise his right match the 60% share of the team that current owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez agreed to sell to Shahid Khan has entered into a sales agreement with Rosenbloom and Rodriquez to buy. Kroenke already owns 40% so if he’s successful he will own 100% of the club. However, NFL ownership rules currently prevent a majority owner to own another major-league team in another market and Kroenke currently owns teams in both the NBA (Denver) and the NHL (Colorado). What does tend to happen though when there is an ownership issue, and its hard not to see this one ending
