Draft Diamond: Ryan Perriloux, Jacksonville St.

The road to the NFL has been a long one for quarterback of Ryan Perrilloux of Jacksonville State. He was a member of the 2007 National Championship team at LSU, but because of off-the-field issues, he transferred to Jacksonville State. As a junior he started all 11 games and was responsible for 26 touchdowns—19 passing and seven rushing—while completing 187 of his 297 passes for 2,318 yards. The numbers earned him Second-Team All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer Honors. This season he passed for 2,350 yards and 23 touchdowns and only threw two interceptions the entire season. He also rushed for 443 yards and eight touchdowns.

Perrilloux knows what he needs to work on as far as the NFL is concerned.

“In this process, NFL teams have asked me if I could come in and handle being a fourth-string quarterback, and I have told them yes. I just want to

Draft Diamond: Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, UTEP

UTEP safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith is a physical player, one who likes to hit you and would rather take on contact than avoid it.

“I like to be physical. I like to play in the box and I don’t worry about taking on pulling offensive linemen,” said Cromartie-Smith. “I like to read the play and then attack it, kind of like safety Adrian Wilson (of the Arizona Cardinals).”

Cromartie-Smith, as a junior, was second on the team in tackles with 77. He also had two tackles for losses, a sack, and a pair of interceptions. This past season he led the team with 108 total tackles and had four tackles for loss and an interception.

Even with a productive college career, Cromartie-Smith knows he can get better.

“I have been training and working to be more flexible…being able to flip my hips and change directions better,” he

Draft Watch: QB Blake Joseph An Underrated Gem

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2YANev2dPng/S7ST5Yn12aI/AAAAAAAAAdk/a4RxwyCX_O8/s1600/BlakeJoseph.jpg

The 2010 NFL Draft class of quarterback is filled with high profile college quarterbacks, two Heisman Trophy winners, and many who had long careers at their respectful school. But just because a quarterback went to a high profile college program doesn’t mean he will be successful at the next level. There are many starting quarterbacks in the NFL that didn’t go to high profile college programs, and in this years draft there are some under the radar quarterbacks to keep your eye on.

One of under the radar quarterbacks is Sam Houston State’s Blake Joseph, who started his career at Houston and then transferred last year to Sam Houston State for his final year of eligibility.

At Sam Houston State this past season Joseph passed for 2,440 yards and 14 touchdowns, completing 61 percent of his throws, while tossing just six interceptions. He

Broncos Poke At Tier Two Running Back Prospects

Among the group scheduled to visit the Broncos, two of the most intriguing names were Toby Gerhart of Stanford and Montario Hardesty of Tennessee. Both are running backs. That’s after Broncos coach Josh McDaniels repeatedly said he was happy with the backfield combination of Knowshon Moreno, the team’s first-round draft pick last year, and Correll Buckhalter. The Broncos also signed J.J. Arrington as a free agent. Gerhart and Hardesty aren’t considered first-round picks. But getting Gerhart likely would require a premium pick on the second day of the April 22-24 draft, given his recent workouts.

Pass-Rusher Jason Worilds Visits Dolphins

Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant wasn’t the only visitor at Dolphins headquarters Friday. The team also had private visits with two outside linebacker prospects: Virginia Tech’s Jason Worilds (a defensive end in college) and Ohio State’s Austin Spitler, who also can play inside. Among players with no local ties, as many as 30 can visit Miami, per NFL rules.

Report: McNabb Favored Retirement Over Raiders

Yahoo! Sports reports that when the Oakland Raiders sniffed around and showed willingness to trade for the quarterback without an extension, Donovan McNabb indicated to the Eagles through his associates that he’d retire. “He has plenty of money,” the source close to McNabb said. “He’s not doing anything he doesn’t want to do.”

NFL: Jonathan Stewart Reveals ’09 Ailments

In today’s editions of the Observer, Panthers’ running back Jonathan Stewart talks in-depth about the Achilles injury that bothered him all last season and the Jan. 20 surgery he hopes will alleviate the pain he played with in 2009. For the first time, Stewart explained that he had a bone spur pressing into his left Achilles and also suffered from tendonitis and bursitis. He wasn’t permitted to put weight on his foot for the first month after the operation. For the third consecutive year, he’ll miss the Panthers’ post-draft minicamp and summer school practices, but expects to begin running in June and to be ready for the start of training camp in late July.
