Small School Sleeper: Robert Calloway

Before last season began, a scout from the Miami Dolphins called a young man playing football for the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals, in Michigan. The scout went on to tell the standout defensive lineman that he had the skills and athleticism to make it in the National Football League.

After that phone call, the Cardinals Robert Calloway said, “I took it to heart” and that the phone call “stuck with me all season”. Calloway admitted that prior to the call he had “one problem”, his conditioning. So prior to the 2009 season, Calloway said he “basically devoted” his life to getting into shape, saying that “I did the best I could for my game”.

Draft Journal: Martin Tevaseu Preps For Pro Day

Dear Journal,

It’s been a while since I checked in. Needless to say, I have been very productive both physically and mentally. Since January I’ve been training twice a day 6 days a week with Brian Hook at Hook Sports Performance who put me through an intense training regimen that focused on my explosion, quickness, speed, endurance and strength. The last two months I’ve been working closely with Mike Waters of Phase 1 Sports shaping my technique and form for each drill I will participate in. Mike Waters knowledge and experience has helped me translate Brian Hook’s training into reality. We tapered off my training last week and this week it’s all about mental repetition and progression.

It’s been a long journey and now my NFL Pro Timing Day is upon us. I

Draft Watch: Lions’ Mayhew Hints At Trade

The NFL draft is a month away, but Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Tuesday at the league’s owners meetings that he is “confident” he’ll have an opportunity to deal the No. 2 overall pick.

“I feel confident that we’ll have an opportunity to move back,” Mayhew said. “Will that be an opportunity that we want to take advantage of? Will it be a situation where we feel we’re getting appropriate value? I couldn’t answer that right now.”

Mayhew danced around several other questions on the topic of trading down from No. 2, something the Lions like other teams at the top of the draft have said they’re eager to do for the right price. But he said his comment was based on conversations he’s had with one other NFL team.

“I’ll say that I’ve had conversations that let me know we’re going to be
