ROUND TWO

33. New England Patriots (14-2) From Carolina: OLB Akeem Ayers, UCLA: The Pats like their 3-4 OLBs more versatile than most.

34. Buffalo Bills (4-12): OLB Justin Houston, Georgia: The boom or bust pick should benefit from 1st round pick Marcell Dareus.

35. Cincinnati Bengals (4-12): QB Andy Dalton, TCU: I don’t get the sudden infatuation, but that’s the buzz.

2011 NFL Draft | Round One Impact & Analysis

Round By Round: Round 1 | Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Round 7<br

#1. Carolina Panthers: QB Cam Newton, Auburn – For better or for worse, new head coach Ron Rivera and Newton will be tied at the hip. The Panthers will certainly have to alter Rob Chudzinski’s intricate offensive system to tailor towards Netwon’s simplistic needs. Even though we all knew this pick was coming, Radio City was buzzing when his name was called.

Prognosticators from around the country have already left a long trail of not-so-favorable assessments of West Virginia wide receiver Jock Sanders, most concluding that the 5’6”, 180-pound pass catcher is just too small, does not play physically enough and carries with him a journal too full of examples of poor decision making to warrant an NFL team taking a chance on him in this upcoming Thursday’s draft.

At best, look for Sanders to go in the very last round, but more likely, be forced to earn a spot on a professional roster through free agency.

Let them say what they will; Sanders responds in kind. Such discussion only inspires him to work harder and prove such pundits wrong. He wants to make sure that his own version of reality comes to light – one in which he surprises plenty with an all-around athleticism reminiscent

Report: Two Top Prospects Failed Drug Test

Two highly touted draft prospects failed their drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

Georgia DE/OLB Justin Houston and Iowa DL Christian Ballard both failed tests for marijuana, according to a report by FOX.

Despite the negative publicity, its unlikely that it will hurt either of their draft stock. The feeling amongst NFL circles is that Houston is projected as late first round selection, while Ballard is targeted for round two.

A few years back, the NFL Draft Bible reported that Illinois CB Vontae Davis and Florida WR Percy Harvin had tested positive for marijuana at the combine Both players were taken in the first round.

We suspect that Houston and Ballard might slip on ‘some’ draft boards but will likely be drafted in that late first-to-early second round range as ‘most’ project.
