Rookie Review: New York Jets

2010 NFL Draft Class–

(1-29) Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State: The highly touted college cornerback struggled mightily on the outside early on. Not only was he moved inside but Wilson was eventually benched in favor of Drew Coleman as the slot man. The developing defensive back has shown a tendency of focusing too heavily on his man in coverage and losing track of the ball. The Jets hope his instincts begin taking over as he begins feeling more comfortable out there. Grade: D-

(2-61) Vladimir Ducasse, OG/OT, Massachusetts: The technically raw rookie wasn’t ready for prime time in 2010. Ducasse was generally tentative and missed several blocks in the preseason, leading him to lose his left guard position to Matt Slauson. The Haitian wonder enters the upcoming season with a lot to prove. Grade: D

(4-112) Joe McKnight, RB, USC: He showed up out of shape and

Shiloh Keo | Unusual Journey To Stardom

Giving Deion Sanders a hug after running his combine drills on national television was more than just a moment that rugged strong safety Shiloh Keo will never forget, but it was the culmination of the years of intense preparation and film study that has propelled the 5’11”, 219-pound pile driver to become of the top performers at his position as he waits to be drafted later this month.

Despite acing his agility drills in Indianapolis, the tireless worker recognized that he may not possess the pure straight-line speed many NFL teams covet out of their safeties in a passing league where defensive backs are expected to be versatile.

“I know I might not be a track star, but when it comes do doing football stuff, I feel that I know what I’m doing. I feel real

DT Ollie Ogbu | New York’s Finest

While the New York Metropolitan area has never been a hotbed for college football talent, a myriad of gifted football players from the area have adopted the Penn State Nittany Lions as sort of their hometown school due to the lack of a Football Bowl Subdivision/Division I-A program in the five boroughs.

Led by Brooklyn-born and bred living legend Joe Paterno, the Blue and White have successfully recruited a slew of high school standouts from New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey in recent years, including Staten Island’s own Ollie Ogbu, who has quietly put together a remarkable career in Happy Valley as a blue-collar defensive enforcer.

Ogbu’s exploits in the East-West Shrine game turned out to be a real eye-opener for some NFL talent evaluators, as the stout 6’1”, 298-pound interior grinder flashed some

Ryan Winterswyk | May Convert To Tight End

Boise State defensive end Ryan Winterswyk’s draft stock is on the rise but not due to his 20 ½ career sacks or 46 ½ tackles for loss.

The 6’4, 225-pounder has received considerable interest from at least half-a-dozen NFL teams as a converted tight end. Winterswyk performed tight end drills at Boise State’s pro day, displaying his versatility in front of representatives from 22 teams.

The former walk-on started all four seasons for the Broncos and was a three-time First Team All-WAC selection but falls into that ‘tweener’ category at the next level. Too small for defensive end, too slow for linebacker but possesses pro talent.

While he might need some time to develop in the pros, Winterswyk has been described as a quality caliber of player who will work his tail off and will find himself on someones roster if/when training camp opens up.

Rookie Review: San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2010 NFL Draft Class–

(1-11) Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers: The Niners may have reached for Davis, who was infamous for his laziness and lack of conditioning in college. Although the former Scarlet Knight was quickly installed as the starting right tackle in the preseason, his warts were soon exposed, as it was clear that he wasn’t strong enough to compete with quality defensive linemen. In addition, he wasn’t quick off the ball and committed way too many penalties. Grade: D

(1-17) Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho: Davis would be wise to follow Iupati’s work habits. The 331-pound road grater played like a man who was 50 pounds lighter with the way he pulled around to the right side from his left guard position. His long arms, incredibly strong hands and agility

Joseph Hastings | Pro Day Draws NFL Interest

Often times small school prospects tend to fall through the cracks during the NFL Draft evaluation process due to the lack of exposure during their career and limited platform to perform in front of NFL types.

Washburn (KS) wide receiver Joseph Hastings had the opportunity to work out at the Kansas State pro day on March 15th and turned a few heads. The 5’11 ½, 185-pound wide out ran in the 4.4-range, flashing the speed that enabled him to average nearly 18 yards per catch and accumulating over 1,500 yards.

Following the workout, Hastings has received interest from the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and conducted a private workout for the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week. Three other teams have since called the coaches at the school to inquire about the Kansas native but we have been unable to confirm who
