New Orleans Saints: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft–

  • DE – The Saints weren’t as effective rushing the passer this year and whether or not that was due the loss of Charles Grant playing opposite Will Smith, the all pro player needs support along the front four if the Saints are going to get back to that disruptive form they showed in 2010. The addition of former Chicago Bear Alex Brown did not bring the kind of impact defensive coordinator Gregg Williams had anticipated, and playing Tony Hargrove out of position at end was also ineffective.
  • RB – With injuries to Pierre Thomas, Lynell Hamilton, Reggie Bush, Ladell Betts, and Chris Ivory, New Orleans literally ran out of running backs as the 2010 season wore on.  Ivory showed some promise late in the year but

2010 NFL Draft Class–

(1-32) Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State: He played a prominent role when starting corners Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter went down. Not only was he solid in reacting to balls in flight but he proved to be quite the tackler in space. His loose hips to turn and run with receivers give him loads of potential. Grade: B+

(2-64) Charles Brown, OT, USC: Although he was a healthy scratch for much of his rookie season, the former Trojan acquitted himself well in the preseason. The 297-pound lineman has long arms and dancer’s feet to slide with and mirror athletic pass rushers. It wouldn’t come as a shock if Brown supplanted the error-prone Jermon Bushrod at left tackle in 2011. Grade: B-

(3-95) Jimmy Graham,

Pro Day: 20 Teams Attend Utah | Taylor Shines

Center/Guard prospect Zane Taylor might not have been the headliner before today’s pro day at Utah but he certainly is now.

Representatives and scouts of more than 20 NFL teams were in attendance when the interior lineman put up 41 bench reps of 225 pounds, besting his combine mark of 33 reps.  Bill Callahan, offensive line coach for the Jets, was also present to watch Taylor in action. His forty time of 5.41 seconds was also an improvement on his results from Indianapolis and he also turned in a very respectable 26.5 inch vertical leap.

Cornerback Brandon Burton also participated in drills and workouts, as he improved on his 4.50 forty yard dash time and looked smooth in drills.

Unfortunately it wasn’t all roses for the Utes, as defensive back Justin Taplin-Ross injured his left leg during a drill and had to be helped off

Philadelphia Eagles: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft–

  • OT – The sight of Mike Vick scrambling is a scene the team would like to see less of in the future. It’s official: Winston Justice has become a liability with his postseason performances over the past two seasons. Occasional starter King Dunlap has been thrown into situations that he is t ill-equipped to handle. The left side is taken care of with Jason Peters coming off his fourth consecutive All Pro season, but shoring up that right side is a key factor to the Eagles improving.
  • OLB – No flash here. The quartet of Ernie Sims, Moise Fokou, Akeem Jordan and Kennan Clayton is rather ordinary. Sims is a free agent and it would be addition by subtraction if they let him walk.  Jordan

2010 NFL Draft Class–

(1-13) Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan: The undersized rush end was effective early on by showing his explosiveness off the edge, as well as using his forceful bull rush technique to wreak havoc on the opposition. However, the former Wolverine couldn’t sustain his good play due to shoulder and ankle injuries. Graham would later sustain a torn ACL. Grade: C+

(2-37) Nate Allen, FS, USF: It didn’t take long for the free safety to thrust himself into the starting lineup. He flashed great awareness and cornerback-like coverage skills as a rookie but he still tends to get sloppy in his technique and isn’t the big hitter that somebody like Brian Dawkins once was. Grade: B

(3-86) Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, DE, Washington: The quiet Hawaiian showed some pass-rush ability

No Big Transition for Justin Trattou

NO BIG TRANSITION FOR JUSTIN TRATTOU

One of would think that playing for one of the nation’s elite college programs like the Florida Gators would be a dream come true…and that usually is the case—for the most part. But playing on a national powerhouse equipped with some of the finest talent around the nation also causes some gifted players to sometimes be overlooked.

NFL prospect Justin Trattou, one can argue, was one of those individuals that never quite got that opportunity to bask in the limelight, as he played behind two future second round picks, Carlos Dunlap and Jermaine Cunningham, at defensive end during most of his time in Gainesville.

When confronted with that thought in a recent interview with the NFL Draft Bible, the New Jersey native chose to only look at his situation from a positive light. “It shows

Pro Day: NFL Takes Note of JMU Product Beiler

Little known Tyler Beiler, a wide receiver from Division III Bridgewater, has created quite the buzz after participating in James Madison’s pro day a little more than a week ago.  Five teams – the Browns, Ravens, Raiders, Buccaneers and Falcons –  were all in attendance for that pro day and have contacted Tyler.

The interest from NFL teams has been heating up for the native of Ronks, Pennsylvania over the past two weeks and it resulted in a Monday afternoon workout with an Eagles scout in Bridgewater. “It went pretty well, considering the conditions,” Beiler said of Monday’s workout. “I was hoping it’d be a little bit warmer, but you’ve got to work with what you’re given.”

Beiler said that he’d been contacted by about a half dozen teams since the James Madison pro day and has already heard from the Broncos and Steelers about a

Cameron Heyward: Ready for Private Pro Day

When Cameron Heyward left the field at Ohio Stadium on November 27, 2010 after defeating the rival Michigan Wolverines 37-7, many probably thought it would be his last performance in Columbus as a football player. ABC’s Sean McDonough or Matt Millen might have even said it on the air. But before the former Buckeye officially becomes part of Roger Goodell’s NFL – who knows when that will be – he has one more matter to attend to back in central Ohio…and it’s a biggie.

“This is my first chance to show off my skills, so I’m going to make the most of it,” Heyward said (on All Access Football Radio) of his private workout scheduled for this Wednesday (March 30) at 10:00 AM in Columbus.

Heyward injured his
