Kansas City Chiefs: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft —

  • OLB – The Chiefs assured themselves of retaining Tamba Hali, who is coming off a monster bust out campaign in which he registered 14 ½ sacks, by slapping him with their Franchise Tag. Despite being able to retain Hali, reinforcements are much at weakside backer. It is time to move on from Mike Vrabel, who will be entering his 15th season. Andy Studebaker has shown flashes throughout his short career but he can’t be counted on to start at this point in time.
  • WR – One player who made a drastic improvement last season was Dwayne Bowe, who led all NFL receivers with 15 touchdowns. While Bowe enjoyed a career year, there was little to be excited about from the rest of the Chiefs receiving

Indianapolis Colts: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2010 NFL Draft Class

(1-31) Jerry Hughes, DE, TCU: The uninspiring 4-3 end did absolutely nothing in his first year. He was inactive for most of the season despite the Colts’ need for a third rusher to help out veterans Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. To date, Hughes has only contributed three tackles and some half-hearted play on special teams. GM/President Bill Polian has reportedly admitted to overrating Hughes last April and overlooking promising left tackle Roger Saffold, who was drafted in the second round. Grade: F

(2-63) Pat Angerer, MLB, Iowa: The instinctive, yet disciplined defender only improved as the season wore on as a starter at the “Sam” and “Mike” positions. Angerer’s ability to pursue plays laterally helped him become Indy’s second leading tackler, as well as

NFL Draft Class 2010

(1-5) Eric Berry, FS, Tennessee: The instinctive defender made plays all over the field, as he started 16 games and registered 126 tackles (82 solos), the highest total ever amassed by a Chiefs rookie safety. Instead of hitting the proverbial rookie wall, Berry ran right through it by finishing on a high note as the NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Month for December/January. The 6’0 defensive back produced 30 unassisted tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions and a touchdown return during that stretch. Grade: A+

(2-36) Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Ole Miss: One can argue that the jack-of-all-trades speedster was a luxury pick considering the team’s need for another lineman to help shore up the run defense. By the same token, one can’t deny that McCluster

Atlanata Falcons: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft

  • CB – One of the key cogs on the Atlanta defense a year ago was Brent Grimes, who played extremely well opposite free agent acquisition Dunta Robinson. The talented tag-team forms a solid 1-2 punch at the cornerback position but the first order of business needs to be re-signing Grimes, who is an unrestricted free agent. Robinson was actually burned on a few occasions but is still regarded as a premier corner. The same can not be said for backups Chris Owens or Brian Williams. A dependable nickel back and better depth is a major need.
  • OG – The Falcons will likely choose to use their franchise tag on tackle Tyson Clabo, leaving them vulnerable to the possibility of losing starting guards Justin Blaylock and Harvey Dahl,

Arizona Cardinals: Team Needs Rookie Review On The Clock Insider Podcast

2011 NFL Draft

  • QB – There’s no denying the Cardinals had a serious drop off in quarterback production in 2010. Arizona possesses one of the best playmakers in the league in Larry Fitzgerald but he needs to be paired with an elite passer who can maximize his potential and bring balance to the offense.  While the Cardinals have some backup type passers in Max Hall and John Skelton, they need the quarterback of the future and will likely address the glaring need in the draft as well as free agency.
  • OG – The Cardinals have a solid tackle in Levi Brown but not much outside of him, as Jeremy Bridges is more of a swing tackle and the rest of Arizona’s starting line might be leaving town.  Alan Faneca, Deuce Lutui,

NFL Draft Class 2010

(1-19) Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri: The trash talking hit-and-run linebacker brought new energy to the defense and turned heads with his ability to play multiple positions. ‘Spoon did make his share of rookie miscues, such as getting caught out of position in pass coverage. He was also hampered by a knee injury for part of the season. The Missouri product’s speed and aggressiveness should be an asset for years to come. Grade: C+

(3-83) Corey Peters, DT, Kentucky: He started 14 games and was by far the biggest difference maker among Atlanta’s rookies. The Pittsburgh native held the point versus the run and gave blockers fits with his quick hand movement. Peters also played hard every down but wasn’t much of a pass-rusher. Outside of his standard bull

NFL Draft Class 2010

(1-26) Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee: “Dumpster Dan” started his NFL journey on the wrong foot by failing to keep his weight in check and wound up being benched as a result. He came on late in the year by making plays in goal-line situations. Williams has quick feet and solid anticipatory skills. He should be the full-time starter in 2011. Grade: C+

(2-47) Daryl Washington, ILB, TCU: He was in and out of the starting lineup, as he kept learning throughout the season. Washington used his speed, lateral agility and uncanny instincts to flow to the ball but there were also moments when he struggled to get off blocks. He brought a much-needed element of explosiveness to Arizona’s linebacker corps. The man is a keeper. Grade: B+

(3-88) Andre Roberts, WR, Citadel: Suffered more than his share of drops and fumbles but
