NFL Draft Awaits Patrick Peterson

Possibly the worst-kept secret in college football, it is widely assumed that LSU junior cornerback Patrick Peterson will be making himself eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft.

Even teammates have been outspoken about the likeliness of Peterson’s departure, who encouraged him to participate in Senior Day during last week’s contest against Ole Miss. He declined but the chances of Peterson returning to LSU appear to be slim and none.

One of the five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Peterson has just four interceptions, a product of opposing quarterbacks steering clear of the lockdown corner. The same holds true on special teams, as opposing kickers also usually tend to avoid the special teams speed-demon.

During the spring, Peterson was timed at 4.37 in the forty-yard dash. His combination of size (6’1, 222) and speed is rare. Add into the equation the physical brand

Rosstradamus Ramble: Thanksgiving Edition

The New York Jets are fast becoming that kid. You know, the one you grew up with who got away with everything and annoyed everyone because of it? They did it again, this time taking advantage of a laughable Houston secondary to erase a collective lapse of concentration in the 30-27 victory. The Jet faithful were still in shock when Santonio Holmes hauled in the game-winning pass from Mark Sanchez, having watched their team inexplicably blow a 16-point fourth quarter lead and somehow trail 27-23 with less than a minute remaining. But faster than you can say J-E-T-S the home team woke up and rallied for the win behind Sanchez and the ever-clutch Holmes. It would have been a disastrous loss for New York, who deserved their two-score lead despite the squandering of it. When Nick Folk hit a chip shot field goal to make the score 23-7

On Location: Thanksgiving With The Steelers

“Candied yams, turkey, stuffing, all those good desserts, it’s a fun time,” said seven-year veteran Max Starks on what he likes to eat on Thanksgiving Day. “There’s a reason we play offensive line,” joked Starks. “All of us are over 300 pounds.” After talking candied yams and turkey, the conversation turned to who can eat the most when it comes to the O-line of the Steelers. Starks evaluated the big-plate hitters from the Steelers, “Chris Kemoeatu has a nice appetite, so do Trai Essex and myself.”

Nothing strange there; simple question with a simple response from Starks, although things took an entertaining turn when I asked his teammate Jonathan Scott, who was sitting right next to him still dripping with sweat after the 35-3 win over the Oakland Raiders, who could eat the most? “Oh my bad, my bad,” laughed Scott as he nudged his elbow into

NFL: Steelers React To Richard Seymour

When you overhear a referee ask, “I lost my whistle, you got an extra?” you know that the game he’s in charge of is getting out of hand. Sunday’s game between the Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers was exactly that. The game would mark a new franchise record for yards penalized by the Steelers (163), who were flagged 14 times. The teams combined for 21 penalties for 218 total yards. President and co-owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Art Rooney II, said, “It reminds me of the old days,” as he reflected on the physical nature of the game.

When speaking to the NFL Draft Bible following the game, Rooney said, “It’s always special to beat the Raiders, no doubt about it, especially when they take a shot at your quarterback.” The referee had already lost one whistle before Oakland’s Richard Seymour decided to thrust a punch to

DeSean Jackson | The New Rickey Henderson

Rickey Henderson was preeminent lead-off man in America’s former past times of baseball and some even considered Henderson the best the game has ever seen with no one even close to being second. Henderson is baseball’s all-time leader with 1,406 steals and 2,295 runs scored. Okay, okay you’re wondering when the NFL Draft Bible started covering baseball.

The game of football might have the closet thing to Rickey Henderson in third-year wide out DeSean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jackson is known for his big plays for big yards that end up being big scores. Maybe others have taken notice but after going Inside The Numbers, the idea of Jackson being the football’s version of Rickey Henderson became reality.

It’s inconsequential that the average kicker in the NFL is bigger than the 5’10 and 175 former California Golden Bears, Jackson has proven once again that little
