The NFL draft is a month away, but Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Tuesday at the league’s owners meetings that he is “confident” he’ll have an opportunity to deal the No. 2 overall pick.
“I feel confident that we’ll have an opportunity to move back,” Mayhew said. “Will that be an opportunity that we want to take advantage of? Will it be a situation where we feel we’re getting appropriate value? I couldn’t answer that right now.”
Mayhew danced around several other questions on the topic of trading down from No. 2, something the Lions like other teams at the top of the draft have said they’re eager to do for the right price. But he said his comment was based on conversations he’s had with one other NFL team.
