Rather than sign immediately with Saskatchewan of the CFL, which selected him at last month’s Canadian league draft, former Queens OT Matt O’Donnell has reportedly is in Boston for a tryout with the NBA’s Celtics. The 6-10 O’Donnell, one of the two Canadians at this year’s East-West All-star game, only played intramural basketball at Queens and hasn’t played the sport competitively since high school. O’Donnell, though, has reportedly received some free-agent interest from several NFL teams since the 2011 draft in April, and may in fact be just putting in time until the NFL labor situation is resolved and he sees what his status is south of the border. CFL teams will be heading to camp this weekend.
