2011 NFL Draft Watch #41: Dont’a Hightower

The countdown continues and our number forty-one prospect in college football is…

Inside Linebacker Dont’a Hightower, Alabama (Junior):

The Skinny: This inside linebacker is an incredible physical specimen—he’s 6’4”, 260 pounds and incredibly athletic—and has healing powers that have to be considered otherworldly. Hightower’s remarkable recovery from a season-ending knee injury has been downright shocking. On the field the Tennessee native has impressive short-area quickness for a man of his size. Agile, he can change directions well; not many can sift through the garbage as well as he does. Even when Hightower’s quick feet aren’t enough to dance around blockers, he is more than strong enough to take them on at the point of attack. His powerful upper-body strength allows him to absolutely blow up fullbacks who try to block

Miami and OSU In Hunt For Seantrel Henderson

The Pioneer Press reports Seantrel Henderson has reconsidered his commitment to USC and that Miami and Ohio State could be back in the hunt.

In the wake of NCAA penalties to USC that include no bowl appearances for the next two seasons, as well as the loss of 30 scholarships over the next three years, it appears Henderson is as good as gone.

It was previously reported that the USC contingent flew out to Minnesota to re-recruit the 6’8, 330-pounder.

Reached Tuesday, Henderson’s father, Sean, had no comment, and Seantrel, who some day could be a first-round NFL draft pick, did not return phone messages.

Ryan Mallett To Skip Manning Passing Academy

Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino has issued a clarification on why Ryan Mallett will miss the Manning Passing Academy this summer, according to ArkansasSports360.com.

Mallett has a conflict with class and also does not need to miss a week of rehab for his surgically-repaired left foot. That clarification jibes with what Archie Manning told ESPN.com about Mallett being unable to attend.

Mallett, who is recovering after having a screw replaced in his surgically repaired left foot in February, was scheduled to serve as a counselor at the high school camp, which features players and coaches from college and the pros. It’s set for July 8-11 at Nichols State in Thibodaux, La.

Steelers’ Emmanuel Sanders Sets Lofty Goals

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie WR Emmanuel Sanders said he wants to be a starter and capture Rookie of the Year honors this upcoming season. “I want to get rookie of the year. That’s why I work out every day. I want to be the starter,” Sanders said.

NFL Draft Bible correspondent Bo Marchionte had a chance to catch up with Sanders recently at an OTA practice. Click here to read the one-on-one with the Steelers rookie.

Ryan Torain Ahead of Willie Parker?

Washington Redskins RB Ryan Torain could get an opportunity of making the team’s final roster if RB Willie Parker is released according to CSNWashington.com.

Both Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis seem to be entrenched in front of Parker on the depth chart, making the seven-year veteran expendable. Shanahan selected Torain in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft while still with Denver and seems to think he can be a fit for his zone blocking scheme.
