Janoris Jenkins | Still Deciding On Future

Interested in transferring to an NCAA Division II football program, former Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins has visited North Alabama but has not yet decided to transfer here, according to sources close to Jenkins and UNA, the Times Daily of Alabama reports.

Several internet reports surfaced yesterday that had made it appear Jenkins had filed his transfer papers to enroll at North Alabama, which has been known to take on players who are in need of an image rehab in the past.

When contacted by the NFL Draft Bible on Thursday, North Alabama officials were unable to confirm the reports but it does seem it is one of the options Jenkins is seriously contemplating.

An official announcement on Jenkins’ future is expected to come within a week.

Chris Hairston | 4th Rd. Gem In Line To Start

Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix confirmed that fourth-rounder Chris Hairston will compete for the starting right tackle job. “He’s long-armed and will help keep guys off our quarterback,” said Nix.

Any time you can snag a potential starter in the fourth round, it shows tremendous value of the pick, something not uncommon in this year’s draft, which some might say lacked a ‘franchise’ quarterback or lots of ‘star’ potential but did offer up a deep draft, filled with talent that enable many teams to select players in the third and fourth rounds capable of starting.

The Bills offensive line has been somewhat of a work in progress over the past few years, as they have used several picks to help strengthen the o-line. Hairston will compete with Erik Pears and Mansfield Wrotto. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him take the job.

NFL: Matt Leinart Offers Low Cost/High Reward

The Los Angeles Daily News is “hearing” that the Seahawks have spoken to free agent Matt Leinart about playing in Seattle, according to USC Trojans beat writer Scott Wolf.

How this speculation begins is anyone’s guess. NFL teams are not allowed to contact or speak with pending free agents or the agents who represent them.

If the Seahawks truly believed Leinart was an option as a strrter, they would have most likely made a play for him during free agency a year ago.

However with the chances of Matt Hsselbeck re-signing looking loke a 50/50 prposition, Leinart could be a contingent policy to Chalie Whitehurst since he is familiar with the team’s offensive scheme playing under Pete Carroll at USC.

It has been six long years since the two were enjoying the Trojans’ glory years, Carroll will be looking for a remedy at quarterback

NFL: Dolphins Overhaul Backfield Via Draft

Out with the old and in with the new. With the Dolphins unlikely to bring back Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams, both of whom will be pending free agents when the NFL resumes, the team insured themselves of a backfield facelift in the 2011 NFL Draft.

While many figure on second round pick Daniel Thomas to carry the bulk of the workload for the Dolphins, the Palm Beach Post speculates that Miami also envisions him as the successor to Brown as the main Wildcat signal caller.

Thomas played QB in junior college where he was 31-67 for 578 yards and four touchdowns. While at Kansas State, he was 8-12 for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Miami plans to use sixth-rounder Charles Clay in a H-Back type of capacity, as a receiver out of the backfield, in the slot and at tight end, in

DJK | Undrafted FA Could Make An Impact

The next journey for Iowa wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos a.k.a. “DJK” awaits after being undrafted during the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Hawkeyes all-time leader in receptions and receiving yardage was suspended from the team after pleading guilty to drug possession in December, forcing him to miss the Insight Bowl.

The arrest hovered over his head, as the NFL did not extend an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine in February, yet another failed opportunity to get a chance to impress in front of scouts.

Now he sits and waits for the pending NFL lockout to end, with intentions of receiving a camp invite from a team willing to forgive him for his past and provide a second chance.

“What happened wasn’t representative of who I am,” said Johnson-Koulianos, “I let myself get influenced by others and due to my success, there were

Reverend’s Potential Rookie F/A Destinations

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: ROOKIE F/A MARKET

Although another draft has come and gone, there are still a number of NFL teams that will need to dip into the rookie free agent market not only to create competition, but also to address needs that weren’t adequately fulfilled last weekend.

A few of those organizations may opt to take care of any lingering deficiencies by targeting veterans who aren’t under contract, but that shouldn’t prevent them from a least taking a dip in the vast and talent-laden rookie free agent pool. Here’s a peek at some of the best free agents available and where they fit best once a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is reached.

Inside The Numbers: First Round Running Backs

Dekas is a word derived from Ancient Greek and translates today in the word we recognize as decade, which is the period of ten years. That’s where this story begins over the last three decades from the 1980’s all the way up to 2011, posing the question, is it true that running backs have been losing their favor and flavor as number one picks in the annual NFL Draft?

The Heisman Trophy winner from 2009, Mark Ingram, was the only running back selected in round one of the 2011 draft, the last time that happened was the 1984 draft but remember the NFL was competing with the USFL and that three of the nation’s top running backs, including another Heisman winner Mike Rozier who would of graded out into the first round no questions asked, had he elected signed with the USFL prior to entering the NFL.
